Continuing to showcase some of my older mixxes

#1 – not technically a Mixx – more of a party tape
#2 – not technically weed related lyrically

HOWEVER-
If you’re at the skate park or playing Frisbee outside on a nice day AND there’s girls around that like to dance, trust me, you should blaze up and play this.  It’s a lot of danceable /  sing-a-long able indie rock, with enough dubstep / voice filters / sounds that push the envelope / mashups.

here’s the original mixx notes

The Real DJ Steve, United DJs Las Vegas, 4-20 party music

Mixx created on 03/12/2012

This DEMO goes back and forth between indie rockers and dance music. As the weather warms up, this would be a great flow for those bars that have an upper deck or an outside patio (hint hint) and want to appeal to a younger crowd. There may not be a dance floor, but the idea is to mix some dance music in a little bit at a time.

—at a “dance club” I could keep the rockers going early, then switch into full dance mode after we hit critical mass, of course—

I’ve kept it fairly tight to a happy vibe for this mixx, but live we could add in segments in almost any direction. (more dubstep, old school rap, 80’s alt, current dance hits, etc.) There aren’t any of MY mash-ups ready for the public…yet…but this is a very good example of me bringing in a few well-known mash-ups here and there while still staying true to my theme.

DEMO CD: COLLEGE NIGHT #02 MIXX

The Art: College Night #01 is a personal favorite of mine, one I listen to frequently as a change of pace from my usual dance music. #02 stays true to the same formula. Imagine yourself at a Hipster-Coffee-Bar and this would be a great soundtrack, sometimes you’ll want to dance, but this isn’t for the dance floor

The Science: this is VERY much a PartyTape, not so much a MixxTape. My focus is on song selection, just having a good flow from the indie rock and when we move into dubstep, mash-ups etc with a leisurely pace.

Hip Hop.  basically the reason for my DJ Name.   At weddings, I play what the peoplez want, but in my own personal life, anything goes.   Wedding Steve is my public persona, but if you want to know one side of The Real DJ Steve, listen to this.

My card is stamped #DJ4Life

PAY ATTENTION: THIS MIXX IS NOT FOR EVERYONE
IT’S STRICTLY FOR AFTER PARTIES (for a reason)

I wouldn’t play ANY of this at a Wedding in a million years. I probably wouldn’t even play this at a club. It’s a lot of offensive, explicit songs. This mixx is for people that rock it til the sun comes up, 4real. Don’t start playing this until 3 in tha morning -then it will make perfect sense.

Here’s a hint, if the first 11 seconds offend you, you better change the channel. Think of this as something guys would listen to at a bachelor party. I’ve got plenty of other mixes online if this is too much – don’t be hatin’.

Wedding Basics: Mother Son Dance

Wedding Basics: Mother Son Dance

Hello there, my name is Stephen Scott, and I am a Las Vegs Wedding DJ, the following post will share some of my insight on how and why the Wedding Basics are important, and how easy it is to turn the basic activities into an Amazing Wedding.

Mother Son Dance

There’s always a First Dance for the Bride and Groom, and depending on the circumstances there is usually a Father / Daughter Dance and sometimes a Mother / Son dance. This post will give you some things to think about when it comes to the Mother Son Dance.

think small (and personal)

First of all, this does not have to be an elaborate activity. This is one of those special moments that is special because it is small and personal. There is plenty of time to take a few minutes and and just share a dance with one of your parents. The whole room will clear out and give you some space, and even though there will be music, enjoy this quiet time in the middle of the storm.

think about your mom (and what she’ll be thinking about)

Admittedly, the “dance” part of this is not that important (to most sons).  Your mom, however, will be flooded with all of the thoughts of you as a baby, you growing up, etc.  This is a couple of minutes for you to let her know you appreciate everything she did for you growing up. The crowd will just morph together in the background, and it will be just the two of you, (for just one quick moment)

think about a song

Now that you’ve visualized that moment, was there a song already in your head? If so, go with your first choice. If you’re not sure, I have a few song suggestions below. I did a little research for this newsletter, and I made a list of every song I’ve played for these dances for the past twenty years and counting. Some of the popular choices get repeated over and over again because they were specifically written with this dance in mind. But notice that there are several, several other songs that have been chosen for one reason or another. There is no right or wrong choice in this matter* as long as it makes you two happy, it’s OK with me.

Popular Father Daughter Songs:

“A Song For Mama” and “The Man You’ve Become” are the most commonly chosen songs, but there are plenty of other choices..

Beatles: In My Life
Ben E. King: Stand By Me

But Wait, there’s more!

now that the elements are are all together in you head,

think about how you want to put them together

Sometimes, you might want to dance with a little flair. We can combine parts of a slow and fast song together if you actually want to “dance” for everyone. Or, if you (or your Parent) is a little shy, I can ask other couples to join you on the dance floor. We don’t have to have the isolation moment if you don’t want it.

Or, if you want to do something extra personal and special, I (and several other DJs) could help out by recording some of your thoughts and adding them in with the music. The voice overs will make sure you don’t forget what you wanted to say, and also lets your guests in on this private moment. You could say something about them, they could come in and say something about you, there are plenty of ways to make a song your own with the voice over technique.

Hopefully, the list of songs, or the visualization technique, or letting you know about the voice over technique will help you get an idea of how you would like this moment to be. Don’t stress out about what “you are supposed to do” – if you think it’s the right thing to do, it probably is.

And one last thing,

think about how happy you will make your parents feel by doing this.

And always remember: this is your big day – it’s supposed to be fun.

Hopefully, you’ll have some good memories about growing up and what they have done for you. Think about what you would say if you had three minutes or so alone to let them know how you feel. Popular Father Daughter Songs:

“Butterfly Kisses” has been far and away the most popular Father & Daughter song in my experience, with “I Loved Her First”, and “Because You Loved Me” close enough to call them a tie for second place.
